Church is mostly about rituals and belonging, not propositional beliefs - Andrew Brown

In The Guardian, Andrew Brown has this to say:

... Most churches, most of the time, don't give a damn for theology. That's one of the things that atheists get wrong about religion. They think it is about propositional beliefs, rather than rituals and belonging. And so they assume that the dispute in the Anglican Communion is really about gays. But if it were, it would be possible to reach a compromise, as has been done about women, where people at least pretend to accept each others' viewpoint.
